Because no one makes money on this site, and because the POL software to emulate a Ultima Online server is free, there is nothing illigal about this hobby. And a good place to start is the shard mentioned in this review. If you are interested in live action roleplaying, but are not sure you want to dress up in a cape and walk around in a friends house while pretending its a castle or spaceship, this could be the answer. As such, these roleplaying shards are given even more fodder for the collective DMing or GMing as they call it. Even though the Origin's Ultima Online software is getting older with each passing year, the amount that is editable only grows with each year. These have been around since about 1996, and every year more of them die, but even more replace the old ones. While this is not often contested, not everyone in the roleplaying community is aware of the sub-genre's sub-genre known as Roleplaying Shards. If you happen to know what Ultima Online is, then chances are you may know that there is quite a following of "player-run" shards.
